Louisville Slug Fest: 2013 UCI Cyclocross World Championships

by Adam on January 31, 2013

Once a year a gathering occurs that requires the presence of the creme de la creme of the cyclocross world.

Welcome to Louisville, Kentucky.

Sunday, February 3rd the masses of the elite cyclocross  socialites will descend upon Eva Bandman Park to witness the UCI World Cyclocross Championships. Will you be there, or will you be on your couch sipping your favorite Belgian brew scouring the internet for the best feed?

I will be there. I want to be able to say to my kids in 10-15 years time that “I was there”.

It’s pretty easy to guess who might win the elite men’s race. Take your pick from any of the Belgians on the line, or perhaps the random Dutch guy may crash the podium. It really isn’t rocket science. I’ll be far more interested in the following:

2. Zach McDonald in the U23 race. I love watching this kid race.

3. Katie Compton vs. Mariane Vos. The battle should be pretty intense. It’s the classic brute force vs. finesse/speed. I’m in the Compton camp. She’s gonna crush those girls.

4. #SVENESS Ok, I said the elite men’s race would be predictable… However, watching Sven Nys dissect a course is amazing. If you haven’t seen the CXHAIRS series on #SVENESS, do it!

5. Powers. I’m a fanboy. I want my boy Jeremy Powers to podium. It’s a long shot, but so was Ali over Foreman.
