Snow + Suffering = Bike Race

For two days I have been trying to figure out a witty way to put this, but I can’t. Snow + Race = suffering. There is little more to say than that. I respect it, like seeing it, and in my own little sick cycling mind, want to be a part of it. To suffer is beautiful. There is grace and beauty in suffering on the bike, particularly on a day like last Saturday. To revile in suffering is an art, one that is written all of the face of Adam Driscoll. I’ll be talking to Adam this coming Thursday for our next podcast, but for those who don’t know him, he’s one of the founding fathers of Adventures for the Cure, a non-profit who’s goal is based around Diabetes awareness. Adam, having Type 1 Diabetes, is one of the most hardcore guys I know. Oh yeah, and he got 1st place in the single speed division of this race.

But what I really want to do is illustrate the progression of suffering. This is Adam Austin, contributor here at DistrictCycling.com and co-host on the District Cycling Podcast. I don’t know of anyone more stoked about racing his bike than this guy. Despite the conditions of the race, he stuck it out.  You can see above the amount of snow going on here, and despite that the man stuck it out. We get folks out to races taking pictures and I came across Photos by Bruce Buckley who got an excellent shot of Adam Austin (and the above pic of Adam Driscoll). Adam looks strong, in control and lookin’ kinda baller with the concentration on his face.

At this point I would like to point out that I’m completely jealous of this race, and the fact that these guys got out there. How tough are you to do this race and suck it up. I’d be proud to hit this up just to say I did it. To have pictures to prove it is even more fantastic. At least I thought that until I saw Adam Austin’s ‘after’ picture.
